Alaa is the founder and principal lawyer of Akbik Law, a boutique law firm based in Ottawa and proudly serving clients across Ontario. Her practice is built on efficiency, clarity, and a genuine respect for each client's circumstances.

Alaa earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph and her law degree from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. She received legal training at the Toronto office of a well-regarded boutique law firm. Between her studies and her legal career, Alaa also worked in the non-profit sector, an experience that continues to shape her perspective on service and access to justice.

Alaa approaches every matter with the same core commitments: identifying the real problem, offering practical solutions, and turning complex legal language into clear, usable advice. She is committed to growing alongside her clients as a trusted advisor they can return to as their needs evolve.

As a first-generation Muslim lawyer who has lived in many communities across Southern Ontario, Alaa brings a genuine appreciation for the richness and diversity of the province she serves. She is building a practice that reflects this diversity, with the aim of offering services that are accessible, informed, and culturally-sensitive.

The Introductory Call

We start by scheduling a 30-minute complimentary call to explain how we can help, discuss your particular legal needs, and determine whether Akbik Law is the right fit for your matter. You'll leave the call with a clear sense of your options and next steps.

If we're a fit, we'll guide you through the next steps: an intake form and a quick identity check that we are required to complete. If everything is satisfactory, we will send over a Retainer Agreement for your review. This sets out what we've agreed on including the scope of the work, the timeline, and how billing will be handled, so there are no surprises. Once you sign, we formally begin working together.

We get to work on your matter. Along the way, we'll reach out for information when we need it, check in at key stages, and keep you updated on progress so you're not left wondering where things stand.

We deliver the final work products and take the time to walk you through them. If something needs clarifying or adjusting, we'll refine it until you feel confident moving forward.

Our Process

Accessing legal services doesn't have to be intimidating, so we aim to keep our process clear and predictable. Here's what working with Akbik Law looks like, from your first call to final delivery.

Please note: A lawyer-client relationship is only established between us once a Retainer Agreement is mutually agreed to at Step 2. That said, whether or not you choose to move forward, we will protect your privacy and keep confidential anything you share with us throughout this process, subject only to our professional and legal obligations.

Our Values

Every Step of the Way

❤︎

Clarity. The law can be complex, so our job is to make it feel less so. We explain things in plain language, set clear expectations at every stage, and help you understand your options before making a decision.

Competence. Every matter receives the care and rigour it deserves. We stay current on the law, work to a high standard, explore new ways to deliver efficient and cost-effective service, and ask the right questions, because good outcomes start with thorough, thoughtful work.

Collaboration. Our approach is client-centred and collaborative. We work alongside you, not around you, to build a strong, suitable approach guided by your priorities and drawing on your knowledge of your own circumstances. The decisions are yours to make—our job is to keep you informed and make sure you feel supported at every stage.

Cultural Sensitivity. We serve clients from all walks of life, and approach each matter with respect and attentiveness. We appreciate the cultural, religious, and personal context behind every legal question, so that the advice you receive fits the life you actually live.
